Dr. Maddie Roberts: Chiropractor and Wise Woman

In October after returning home from a 21-day trip that was more stressful than I realized I ended up in Dr. Maddie and Dr. Mike’s chairs at Lifetime for soft-tissue demos that began releasing the tension I was carrying in my shoulders. In addition, I arrived home to a deadline that was moved up to October 31st from December 31st. Needless to say, Dr. Maddie and Dr. Mike released tension and stress in my shoulders.

Dr. Maddie asked me how I was…and that was it…

Offering wisdom and practical suggestions, I began to relax, listening to what Dr. Maddie was offering. She helped me figure out why strength training was so painful and together we figured out what weight to lift, correcting my form and then at some point, I simply decided to take a month off.

I continued to find myself in Dr. Maddie’s chair during this break and slowly, my shoulders began to heal.

As I did, too. I believe I was in the right place at the right time and will be forever grateful for everything she offered; she has been part of my recovery.

Since October, I’ve had the opportunity for soft tissue work twice a week on my shoulders. Along with this, there was a healthy dose of wisdom imparted.

What I call the 5-minute soft tissue demo, is actually IMJT. Created by the chiropractor director for Lifetime this is integrated muscle joint therapy. What it does is change the tone of muscle, in order to recalibrate the relationship between muscles and joints. Doctors learn this in training.

Dr. Maddie’s background and history: As a runner in middle and high school, she ran in college and suffered her first injury in 2012. Multiple hip fractures her senior year in high school and fall of college brought her to an orthopedic. As she was wondering what her college running career would look like, a teammate suggested she try her chiropractor.

“This doctor saved my hips-and I didn’t have to have a hip replacement.”

Always interested in medicine, and the impact it had on her own life, Dr. Maddie knew she wanted to have that impact on others. The prevention aspect was important. Through this she was able to take control of her health and enjoy fitness, including running. It was a different perception of how to handle medical issues, and she wanted to offer this to others.

Accepted to Logan College of Chiropractic in 2016 she and her fiancé at the time moved here.

Graduating in 2019, Dr. Maddie began working in 2020 at a clinic in Washington, Missouri, growing a community of patients. During this time, her husband, an exercise physiologist and trainer, worked at Lifetime. It was Patrick’s enthusiasm for Lifetime that drew Dr. Maddie in.

“Patrick wanted to set us up for success,” she relays. Dr. Maddie adds, “We were both setting ourselves up for success. We are great friends and a good team. And the move to Lifetime was part of this success for both of us.”

While the demo’s are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am-10:45am, the chiropractors also offer a free consultation to discuss goals and what someone wants to address. The exam looks for the root cause of pain and tightness including what someone is experiencing including issues that are holding them back from breakthrough’s. A follow-up visit includes a tailored solution created for each client which might include adjustments, soft tissue work, work on any joints. It’s full scale: shoulders, back, corrective exercise work. Many modalities are combined: Chiropractic work is married with massage therapy and physical therapy. If more is needed, Dr. Maddie refers patients to other practitioners. She believes that enhancing the experience often helps patients meet their goals, including overall mechanics and mobility. It is a holistic approach to wellness.

Looking around the space we are currently sitting in, she says, "The consultation room is where the magic happens!”

I also believe the chairs are where the magic happens. And while in her chair, if you are open to it, Dr. Maddie is offering words of wisdom. After relaying a story to her, she suggested: If it’s not supposed to be, sometimes it isn’t… let it go…” then she reminds me that being true to myself as she is to herself is an important part of this learning as well. She strives to be and stay authentic in conversation by trying to provide a safe environment that offers comfort and solutions while trying to be in community.

I comment that Dr. Maddie is an old soul and she responds, “I’ve lived many lives trying to learn in each life while trying to figure out day to day life. My husband is an old soul, too and helps quite a bit by sharing what he’s learned. I’m learning to let go of thing that are out of my control.”

I am so thankful that Dr. Maddie is part of our lives…inspiring so many of us. She's magic, too!

Thank you, Dr. Maddie...you've changed my life!
