The Chocolate Tour: Episodes Two and Three

On May 14th, Kate and I headed out for another evening of new places and chocolate. It was my turn to plan our outing, and I have to say I was a little nervous. Kate likes to get out and about, has no issues driving more than twenty minutes-she’s not from St. Louis! -and I wanted it to be just as fun as the evening she planned!
We started at Tous les Jours, a bakery café in University City.

I hadn’t been, but Kate had so she knew what to order. I loved the big, bright café and everything looked incredible. Kate ended up with croissants filled with chocolate for her family and a matcha brownie. I picked up a fudge brownie which I had the next day with no complaints.

Next, we headed to Winslow’s Table, which I had been to many times, but Kate had always wanted to try. I loved Winslow’s Table. We used to go after dance class years before covid. I loved their sandwiches and salads. And I had forgotten about their Winslow’s Bar. Once I saw it, I remembered
how much I loved it and promptly ordered one with dinner. It has to be one of my favorite desserts. It is some sort of short-bread with a layer of caramelly-butter topped with chocolate. It really doesn’t get any better than this.

Kate and I needed dinner, so we ordered a beet, berry, and goat cheese salad (compensating for the desserts) and black garlic and ricotta ravioli which was incredible. We sat inside and enjoyed the surroundings. When it was time for dessert, we shared the Winslow’s Bar (I still dream about this)
and a brownie. Lucky for me, Kate liked the brownie better! When you get to Winslow’s Table, leave room for their baked goods. More than worth the time on the treadmill or bike.

In addition to the yummy treats, Winslow’s Table is also a gift shop. Check out all the fun when you go.

After these adventures, we headed to Webster Groves for The Annex. On our first Chocolate Tour the server at Big Sky suggested we try the brownie at The Annex because it was really good. We didn’t make it in time on our first evening, so we made sure we were early enough to enjoy.

The Annex is a restaurant on one side with sit-down service and what looks like a deli counter. They also have the cutest store with all sorts of interesting finds. I loved that they had quiche as I had been looking for good quiche everywhere.

We had had dinner, so we looked around the store and then went next door to Half Pint at The Annex. It’s an old-fashioned ice cream shop and a candy shop. We tried a few ice cream flavors and then both ended up with truffles.

It was another fun Chocolate Tour! We were ready for the next adventure.
In June, I was very glad that Kate was planning our outing.
Neither of us had been to The Block Restaurant and Butcher in Webster Groves, but both of us wanted to try it. I remembered seeing it when in Webster, so I was looking forward to this trip in June.

Sitting in the bar in the window, Kate and I decided to share everything. We ordered sirloin salad and the beef rib from the dinner menu and sliders from the Happy Hour menu. The salad was good and fresh, and the sliders were delicious.

But oh, the beef rib was something to write home about. The server warned us it was big, Fred Flintstone-like. However, we had no idea what we were in for. Let me just say…wow. Double wow. The beef rib makes quite the presentation, and I was glad we were sharing it! The next table even
commented. This was one of the most delicious things I have ever had. The combination of flavors and the meat was so tender. Plus, it was just giant! (Kate took the bone home for Lily, her dog who apparently loved it as much as we did the next day.)

For dessert, because there was going to be dessert, we shared the brownie bowl. In full disclosure, every dessert sounded incredible. This dessert was a warm Companion Bakery cream cheese brownie, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The brownie was just warm enough
and the ice cream had a great flavor. All in all, this was an excellent choice combining two of my favorite sugar fixes. I was sorry I shared!

We headed to Sylvie Dee’s to check it out because we had been talking about it since the time we arrived a few weeks prior, and it was closed.

It’s a cute ice cream shop with candy and baked goods. After the brownie bowl I was good. Kate tried Gold Coast chocolate which she thought was okay. However, the place is festive and fun, a perfect place for kids and families.

Once more Kate and I had a fun evening on our Chocolate Tour. We tried new places and thoroughly enjoyed brainstorming our next outings.
